It was far from a pitchers’ duel on Thursday in Pea Ridge, as the Lady Blackhawks outscored Green Forest, 25-10.

"We had a lot of mental mistakes and a lot of errors," Green Forest coach Ryan Whetham said. "We ended up walking 13 and it's just hard to win doing those things. I don't care how good or bad the other team is."

The Lady Tigers scored all 10 of their runs in the top of the third inning. Kendall DeMeyer, Emily Becker, Ashley Farrar and Rachael Evans all scored runs.

"We only struck out four times and they have a really good freshman pitcher," Whetham said. "We were swinging it and we were hitting it; it was just going right to them. Once the second pitcher came in, we started hitting it on her and that's the kind of pitcher we will see once we get into conference play."

Kiara Taylor started for Green Forest and Trinity McMahan came on in relief of Taylor. Both of those players are still only two weeks removed from basketball season.

"Gracie Youngblood is probably in a little bit better pitching shape than they are, but I needed to get them some time," Whetham said. "This was good for us. Now we know what we need to work on with them. We can just battle that in practice and in JV games. It will take a couple weeks for them to get adjusted, but it's like I told them, it's not about what we do in March, it's about what we do in April." ... Click here to read full article
